Govt Telling U What 2 Do - REALLY???
- Get off the kick of the government telling you when to go to bed at night. If you are that easily swayed to do something maybe it's best they do tell YOU what to do. Most people are able to make independent choices on their own. 90% of the American people need somebody to tell them what to do since the majority has an 8th grade education. Wait, that was 20 years ago. Now people are based on a 6th grade education.

Calculate the total cost
- Someone should do a sensationalized study of how many billions and billions of dollars are wasted each year when people oversleep because they forgot to set their clocks ahead in springtime. The newspapers will report it if it's ridiculous enough.

We need light to walk in.
- Children on the way to school should not be in the dark. Even for a man going to work, when he can't see the sky to know the weather, the delay in setting back the clock is incentive to rearrange our schedules.

Time change
- Why not change Florida time to adjust the brutal heat to a shorter day. Example: Spring Back/Fall Forward
- —Guest Raymond
No real reason for it
- The government needs to do away with this. There's no evidence to support we still need this. Life was simpler in Arizona when we didn't need to change the clocks. But it changed the time zones too- Arizona was on Pacific Time, which seemed to mess with everyone. Too confusing- get rid of it!
- —Guest No more DST
DST was needed now its not.
- When DST was initially instated, it was done so, as the article heading this forum stated, to help save on energy costs for war production. This is not needed now, and to make matters worse, most businesses that use excessive amounts of energy also run 24 hours a day, thusly making DST a COMPLETE waste of time. The only reason it is still around is because it works around everyone elses "business" schedules, its what everyone has come to expect, so that is what is done. Thought i doubt we will ever get rid of it, i would love to see it gone. All that being said, i cant honestly say i dont get that "Aaaaahhhhhh" feeling when i get that "extra" hour come november. Think carefully before you decide to get rid of it.

Larry
- Why not do it like the state of AZ. and a couple states do: DONT CHANGE THE CLOCKS...EVER!!!!! That way nobody gets confused. At least not in AZ.!!
- —Guest Ghosty
Useless Politicians
- The only real reason we have this stupid scheme is because the pond scum we pathetic people keep sending to Washington need to be seen "doing" something. No impact, no higher taxes, no increased cost; but they DID something. A pox on the lot of them.

Why so angry
- Am I the only one who thinks it sucks when the sun comes up at 5am and it gets dark early? You guys do realize that the hours from Nov-march are the normal hours right? Dst is what makes it so it's light later, the only people who should want dst to end are the ones that get up at 4:30am everyone else should want dst to be permanent so that it will always be light later.

Big waste of time
- Most of the people I talk to think changing the twice a year is just a waste if time
- —Guest Severyndad
Daylight savings time
- does not make sense at all to uneceasarily burden the whole world when one spill from a BP oil accident was more than a whole years of savings from time change. And the article claims that there is no confirmation that the claimed savings even take place at all!! You know what I am trying to say... Just because someone is put in charge of a stupid idea, doesnt necessarily mean he has come up with an intelligent thought!!
- —Guest fa
ludicrous
- dst is ludicrous . . . get rid of dst . . . not only here in usa but in every country. other countries subscribe to dst but at different times of year. you have any idea how ridiculous this "pandemic" is ? try calling someone on other other side of the planet . . . could be different time differential from last time you called. eliminate dst world-wide.
- —Guest pnamajck
duh
- daylight savings serves no purpose in the modern world. it is only confusing and useless. in the past it was for farmers. todays machines have lights and electronic equiptment ,so why do we still do it... because "that's what we have always done"... i hate that phrase!!!
- —Guest nameless
Nanny state
- DST is another example of "big government" intruding in our private lives, by telling us when to go to bed and when to get up! SSoon it will tell us what we're ALLOWED to do in bed as well!!
- —Guest Lurch
re: TV 5
- Many 'sound' logical reasons for DST in theory - if everyone worked the same shift - and if everyone lived at the same latitude - if all businesses opened and closed at the same time - if everyone had the same routine and schedule - if their were no children - if everyone had the same preferences - but it is not that way, is it? How much overtime (time and a half or better) must be paid - that is only offset by the loss of an hour of straight time?
- —Guest get rid of it
