MOVE FORWARD

For those who agree with DST because of tradition make me laugh. It not the same anymore! Society is way faster than it used to be. No matter how much light is out you're going be up till late or up early so this notion bout energy savings is out the door. Days go by so fast I can barely remember why I did yesterday. For those using the kids going to school in the dark excuse, take them to school if you're so worried about there safety!! Let's be honest this idea is old and useless. It's bad enough we slave ourselves with the daily grind driven by greed. Why not sleep a little longer to get some rest when we can??? It's 2 less stresses a year we wouldn't have to deal with. For those who want DST can move to Europe. Two years with out this obsolete idea I guarantee we will not miss it!!! DOWN WITH DST!!!

It seems useless

I didn't like DST as a grade-school child and over 50 years later, I still don't like it. Currently, I get up at 4:30 am to get ready for work, and I work in a windowless office space so the lights and A/C are on all the time anyway.

Get over it

You guys whining about the gubmint telling you what to do realize that the govt. set the standard time and time zones anyway, even without DST, right? Jeez, people, its the time you're all freaky over.

Scheduling Costs

No one seems to mention the real cost of rescheduling all the trains, planes, TV shows, etc. They must publish new schesdules twice a year costing considerable in time, effort and trees for the paper. It seems stupid to change all the worlds clocks for an unproven "savings" in energy. Get rid of it!

stupidity

What is the point of having this daylight savings time? I don't think it is really a savings. If anything, it adds to the tax burden we are already faced with. With the turning back of the clocks, will come the need to turn on our lights sooner. Lights that get turned on when the stoves start firing up for diner. All of which consumes more power. As more power is consumed, the cost of it increases. Hence, all those street lights that get turned on an hour earlier during "peak time" (diner)... hits us all in the pocket book through higher energy costs and/or taxes. I personally think that daylight savings should be done away with. Wasn't this to benefit the farmer at one point or something ridiculous like that. Tell him/her to sleep in an hour ! So, we can keep our taxes and energy bills low! its kind of stupidity really.

Day Light Savings Does NOT Always Save

Indiana recently switched to Daylight Savings, and a study by the colleges revealed more energy was actually used by switching to Daylight Savings. I think it would be a worthwhile notable detail in your article if you're going to claim it saves energy.

Change your work hours, not the clock

The best rationalization I've heard so far for DST is to keep kids safer on their way to school in the morning. Standing at a bus stop in the dark is NOT the best situation for our kids these days. That being said, we don't have to adjust the clock. Instead adjust the start time for school. This can easily apply to businesses too. For instance from August to October - start at 8:00. From November to February start at 9:00. From March to June start at 8:00. EASY!! Think of how much simpler communications and information system would be if all locations had consistent time differences globally! Huge cost savings potential.

Farmers??

All the talk about this being created for farmers or to help farmers is so silly. Do you really think that a farmer, is punching a clock???? "Gotta go milk the cows an hour early today, darn dst". Farmers are probably some of the few people that aren't at all affected by dst, they work when the sun comes up regardless.

Change

Let's just change the clocks once a year? That way Vampires can enjoy those hot sunny days too!
—Guest dumbdumb

WTF

People are talking all this sh*t about U.S. goverment , and how this is usless, and the goverment this and that ...... let me tell you this DST is around the world . Is not just the U.S. , is ALL THE WORLD ..... so stop complaining about something so little as one hour "less" or "more" . Time really doesn't exist . We are saving energy around the world. We've been doing this since 2004 ..... if you forget is YOUR PROBLEM ... don't blame the goverment .... AMEN

doesn't change anything

I don't understand it, according to your explanation daylight saving time is supposed to reduce light time and thus power usage in the winter. but in the winter you've "fallen back" to STANDARD TIME so the time in the winter is the same regardless of wheather you are using daylight saving time or not, so the energy consumption would be exactly the same.
—Guest shaun

why mess with time?

time is really an abstract construct... why are we using it to torture ourselves? let's just mark it and leave it... I hate the spring forward... messes me up for weeks...
—Guest val

are you people just slow?

Dst is not new, not confussing, and most people do prefer it. You grew up with it and don't have a clue as to the difference. If it is confussing to you, well then I don't think you can be helped. Good luck with the upcoming sacry and difficult time change.

STFU

Way to use a blog post as innocuous as DST to spam us with your teapartying "git the gubbment outta my life" b.s. Please leave. thx
—Guest omg

DST should be abolished

Can we have a vote on it? By far the biggest majority appears to want DST abolished. But, since the minority seem to rule, I suppose we must keep it.
