um ya

same here, bare min. is all they're getting. # of persons, ages, and human race. my question is...if this is totally anonymous, how do they know who DOESN'T fill it out? LOL

Only the Basics

# of people, sex, and ages For race I'm putting down 'human.' For ethnic group, I'm putting down 'citizen.' For income and mortgage status, 'not your business.'

It costs us more NOT to fill it out...

Like others who have responded here, I bristled at the questions on the 2010 census. But then I thought about how many census workers our tax money will be paying to call houses 6 times, or come to front doors repeatedly, or do the paperwork to issue fines for each person who doesn't return their filled-out census. I also thought about how my info. is all out there already -- driver's license, IRS, etc. So, save us all some money and just answer the darn thing and get it over with. I think my biggest disappointment with the whole census form is that it doesn't make sure that only legal U.S. citizens fill it out. But then, if so many legal US citizens don't want to fill it out when they are required to, why would illegals even want to be bothered, when they aren't required to? My census is filled out and ready to mail -- I'm glad I can cease my kvetching (which I've done plenty of) and check that off my list.

Census makes Americans Unsafe

You do not mention in your article that we are asked if our house is paid off, or not. This information could be used by predators in government to steal property. This information is of interest to private bankers. With the 2005 Eminent Domain ruling, I can see how this information could be used to target private citizens who own their property free and clear. The "government" has no business asking this on a required census. Sorry you left out this part of the census questions. Also, who should care what a person's ethnic background is? This is also private. These intrusions upset people.

Don't Fight It; FIX IT

As much as I really feel violated by this census, I went ahead and filled out all of the boxes except our birthdates. I filled in the age, but in today's environment of identity theft, there's no way I am providing birthdates to anyone that doesn't absolutely need it. The reason I answered the questions that I did is because I don't want to give them any excuse to "follow-up" with personal visits. If they want to pay to send someone to my home to ask for my birthdate, then I really know that I made the right choice. The SOLUTION to this God-awful situation that we are in is to change the leadership that put us in this spot to begin with. Don't just "pitch a fit" on blogs...PROTEST WITH YOUR VOTE NEXT FALL. I have been an independent all of my life, but the current batch of crooks and powermongers have pushed me off of the fence and squarely into the Republican camp. I know it is normally wrong to do so, but I will (for the first time) vote a straight party ticket this fall.

SOCIALISM IN WASHINGTON

I will only give this socialistic / communistic regime numbers and age of residents. The sex of the residents has no bearing on representation requirements. My name or that of any other person which may be co-habitating with me is not relevant either. Neither is my race, other than HUMAN.

no, it's not constitutional........and invades my privacy...........

Giving very little info

I answered number living in household, my age but not date of birth (Getting close to retirement and want seniors represented) and race (caucasian) because I'm afraid the government will fill in whatever race benefits them. That's it. 3 questions answered.

PERTINENT answers only!

I answered ONLY the questions that are pertinent to conducting a Census: # of people, ages and sex. Our government must think we are really gullible and stupid to believe that our birthdates, names and phone numbers have anything at all to do with determinining growth and funding in this country. As for "race"...I personally believe this country needs to get OFF of that subject entirely. We are supposed to be a country UNITED, and there should be no special 'race' interest groups or funding,....just one HUMAN race.

Count for representation

We will give them a count of persons in our household only. In order to get proper representation to our state. We will ensure we follow the constitutional requirement. That is all we will follow. As with many things in congress now, the constitution seems to be less then important, so I am not at all surprised they are wasting our time and money collecting information they do not need, but only want. The information they are collecting ensures they can gerrymander congressional districts, and lobby correctly, for votes. No other excuse holds up for wanting the other information in the census. So we will give them what is required by the original law, the constitutional requirement, a count so as to ensure proper representation for our state. The fines, as well, are unconstitutional, as the information they have added on is not required to be collected. So if one does not answer them, they have not failed to properly complete the census requirement.

No way jose!

I thought no way Jose was in keeping with the hispanic fetish of the feds. This gov't (all three branches) refuses to protect our borders. The Congress and President are not the least bit concerned with what the population wants. The tricks and slimey subterfuges being used by Obama, Pelosi and Reid demonstrate how much respect they have for the law and the people. Why should the people have any respect for them or their intrusive questions? They don't need to know my name, my phone number, my birth date or whether my damn mortgage is paid off. I am a law abiding, bill-paying, voting citizen who has reached his fill with the feds. They will get from me only that which is required by the Constitution ( a document that most of them are apparently not familiar with).

Census Invasion

I can understand needing the number of people, their ages, and sex, but beyond that, the names and birthdates seem totally unnecessary for the purpose of a "census".

Hispanic Not A Race?

They're getting a head count with race and ages and if they wanted our income range that would have been fine. For Race, we marked our Hispanic roommate as an Native American from the Aztec Tribe.

ONLY THE VERY LIMITED BASICS

I will give them the # in household, no names, ineligible birthdates and ages, nothing or all on race depending on how you see it (what the hell is that anyway?!), it should not matter! And finally, ending with Human-American race. Will not use the enclosed barcoded return envelope nor front page with same info. Will use my own envelope with simple information in my own envelope with simple return address of state I live in. And only the first 3 pages which apply to my household, the remaining pages (which also by chance have barcodes on them have been ripped off and thrown in garbage where they belong). I agree with 99% of you all and am fed up with the arrogance of the current administration and president and refuse to give them any personal information about myself and family. This is in fact still a free country and I for one want it to remain that way, and that means taking a stand. If you don't stand up for what you believe in then you stand for nothing.
