Largest Cities in the United States Based on Population

What follows is a listing of the 20 largest cities in the United States based on the latest population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau as of July 1, 2006.

Notice that more than half of large cities are located what could be broadly be defined as the "Sunbelt." The warmer regions of the United States are those that are growing most rapidly.

With the July 1, 2006 estimates, Phoenix replaced Philadelphia as the fifth largest city in the United States.
