Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal Questionnaire
Dateline: 04/20/98The United States Census Bureau is carrying out dress rehearsals this month for the upcoming Census 2000. The three places involved in the dress rehearsal are Sacramento, California, 11 counties in the Columbia, South Carolina area, and the Menominee Reservation in Wisconsin. Questionnaires were mailed in late March and earlier this month for "Census Day," April 18, 1998. Results will be tallied by December and the Bureau will then be better prepared for the next decennial census day, April 1, 2000.
The information on this form is requested on every person in the country, although about 17% of the households are sent a longer questionnaire which contains more in-depth questions.
The biggest change in this decennial census questionnaire is that the question about race allows multiple boxes to be checked for those who consider themselves to be multi-racial.
Below are the questions from the first two pages of the dress rehearsal form from Sacramento, California. Additional pages are simply additional pages for additional members of the household. Brackets, "[ ]," indicate a fully closed box.
