336 and 338 Central Avenue - Central Cigar and Theater

The Fillmore Towne Theater was built in 1918 and began its career by showing silent movies and vaudeville acts on its stage. The theater was heavily damaged in the 1994 earthquake and was subsequently purchased by the city and renovated with the help of grants from the state and local contributions. The theater now shows first run films nightly.

To the right (south) of the theater is Central Cigar, a small cigar shop with short business hours of 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday (or by appointment). On the left (north) side of the theater is a vacant space which supposedly rents for $300 a month. Not a bad location for just about anything.
