Which states have the most people?

Based on the latest population estimates (July 1, 1999) by the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the five most populous states are:

1. California - 33,145,121
2. Texas - 20,044,141
3. New York - 18,196,601
4. Florida - 15,111,244
5. Illinois - 12,128,370

At the time of the 1990 Census, New York was second, Texas was third, Florida was fourth, and Pennsylvania was fifth.
