What is the oldest continuously settled city in the United States?

Saint Augustine, Florida was founded by Spanish explorer Pedro Menendez de Aviles in 1565 and has been in existence for over four centuries. It has been part of the United States since 1821. Today, Saint Augustine, which is located on Florida's Atlantic coast, has a population of approximately 12,000 people.
