When was the baby boom?

The years 1946 to 1964 are known as the "baby boom" as 77 million babies were born during the unprescidented increase in the birth rate following World War II.

In 1996, the baby boomers (as the cohort is known) started reaching age 50 so the U.S. is working to prepare for the challenge of a large number of people dependent on health and welfare services over the next few decades.
