Last week, the United Nations General Assembly approved five new member countries for two-year terms for the non-permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council. The five new countries take the place of the five countries with terms expiring on December 31. The five new member countries taking their seats on January 1, 2013 are Argentina, Australia, Luxembourg, Rwanda, and South Korea, taking the seats of Colombia, Germany, India, Portugal, and South Africa.
