“Melilla is the larger of the two cities in land area. It claims approximately twelve square kilometers..”

“Ceuta is a little smaller in terms of land area (roughly eighteen square kilometers…” ???

And I would guess that very few Americans conceptualize how much area 12 square kilometers is. Why not tell your readers that 12 square kilometers is equivalent to a square a little more than 2 miles on a side. (2.15).

Why wouldn’t Brian and Matt show even the least bit of embarrassment by the error I pointed out? Of course it could happen to anyone but it tells me nether of you chose to proof-read the piece. No harm done I suppose. But when I see such an error I am inclined to not finish reading the article. There are so many articles I never even get to start reading.

Maybe because putting the metric system without English-units isn’t an error? Maybe because they can’t respond to every trolling comment?

Catholicgauze, please take one minute to read my comment.

According to the piece the city with 18 square kilometers is SMALL:ER than the city with 12 square kilometers.

Second: I SUGGESTED that his likely readers would be more familiar with miles than kilometers. Why would he put the onus on the readers? Do you know how many square kilometers in a square mile? It is very close to 2.6. 1/(.62}^2=2.60

When an article by an intern that contains only two numbers scews them up he and his mentor ought to share a bit of embarrasment. I regret pointing it out.

You’re right Don. I apologize for the mistake. I had to go back and check my journal from Peace Corps and Ceuta is larger in land area with a larger population. I double checked it online just to be sure. I’ll have it corrected.

By the way, I only have time to check-in once or twice a week so if I don’t respond immediately it’s not because I don’t care. Don’t worry, I’m not avoiding you.

I still hope you got something out of the article.

Don,

I’m sorry for my delay but I’ve been a bit busy between Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur. I’ll make the corrections this evening.
