In the past few years, there have been several news stories about Chinese women who have been forced to terminate their pregnancies when local officials have tried to strictly enforce the country's One Child Policy. This brand-new feature on my site is a collection of ten essential facts about China's One Child Policy. I hope that it answers any questions you might have about the One Child Policy.

Thanks Matt–interesting post
I’ve read that more than 50% of Chinese live in urban areas now, and was surprised that your post showed such a high rate of migration to China.
Matt,
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Demographic Winter theory and China’s future. How will China’s economy sustain if their working class is shrinking while still supporting their elderly?
Your thoughts?
Great article.
I believe none of the world’s problems(energy/CO2/global warming/fresh water supply, food) will ever get solved until population is billions less than the 7.1 billion of today.
While it easy to criticize the Chinese program it is the only one that recognizes the problem and they are actually doing something about it.
I also think it is too late. We needed to start such population programs about 50 years ago to avoid a great die-off. I hope my calculations are wrong.
Earlier this evening I read a message on an energy blog. A few hours later I saw that 935 readers had seen the message and had submitted 19 substantial comments. There will be many more.
The subject on that blog is often related to population as is the present article on this blog.
Either Geography folks, compared to energy folks, are not very interested in their subject – or just maybe very few Geography folks actually exist. I see only two comments by others after several days.
this is awesome
GREAT IMPORTANT INFOR.
