There are many countries that claim to be the world's oldest country. However, not all of the countries that claim that title can be correct. So, how do we determine the answer to such a difficult question? Read my article about the world's oldest country to find out who the winner or winners are!

Dear Matt, you have got your facts wrong. I am from India and we trace our country’s history from Indus valley civilisation which dates back to 2500 BC (though its still controversial!). Bharat was a country from the time of Mahabharat (sometime around 1400 BC: History of India, Dutt, R.C.,pp98).
i am iranian . i studied about history of many countries and now i am sure that iran is oldest country in the world.
With defined boundaries is Portugal …
I have a master degree in Urban history and can said that the civilization of the Indus Valey can not be considered a country but an population area. Yes it is the first civilization in the world but can’t be considered the older country, because is not a country. Portugal was the first to define its borders and the first to present itself as a country and not as a kingdom, thus has this title.
You have no idea what you are talking about and it is clear you don’t know anything about Iranian history.
We have researched and found out that top 3 oldest countries are:
3: Egypt
2:Ethiopia
1: Armenia
if your opinion is : iran isn’t the oldest country in the world , please study about shahre – sukhteh .
I am sorry u all with your degrees and still have no clue which it’s the oldest country in the world. None are, and all are…If we trace back to the times of Pangaea witch was a supercontinent that existed during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras. Forming about 300 million years ago and beginning to rift around 200 million years ago, before the component continents were separated into their current configurations.
Now if we are talking about oldest civilization or earliest human ever lived, and I am not talking about Adam and Eve which to my opinion it’s story about how Israel people came to be, but not all human race. We can concur accordingly to anthropological findings, Africa could be, China, and what is called Arabia. Who knows how many” Adams and Eves” rafted along the continents and established their own cultures. We can see it in the way they looked, all Indian and middle eastern features and skin color. And now answer this, I wonder where whites and orientals came from? where they here first?
IRAN is oldest Country in world . IRAN have 11000 yers civilization and ca. 4300 State History .
IRAQ is the cradle of civilization and the oldest country in history. Some of the countries cited here may be fitting named the oldest of modern history not all history. Please study some history then leave a comment!

Bulgaria in Europe 681 well known date. That make Bulgaria 1st oldest country in Europe and 3d in the world.
The oldest nation is Armenia I am sure about that. One fact that proves this is in the actual name Ar Men which translates in English into the Men of Ar this is where the word Aryan comes from or by separating the word A r yan. The word Ar is in the Armenian word Ararel (to create make) and the word Ararat (the mountain where it is believed Noah landed and the first people came) means the place of Creation, thus Armenia means the children of the Creator in other words was where other nations came from.
Studied this for years believe me!
Iran is the oldest country
It is Iran , just search it , where ever you want , or just take time and check out this ,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldest_countries
It’s Iran. I’m pretty sure there are older countries, than Iran. But none have been put-forth as older than Iran. Iran was declared a country in 3200BC. Which is about 5212 years old. Next would probably be South Korea or Portugal.
If the word “country” means anything, it is an area of land controlled by a government, or, in a historical context, a continuous succession of governments. By this standard the oldest country is Portugal.
First of all lets get one thing straight for everyone on the world. Macedonia is not part of Greece nor has it EVER been! Secondly Alexander The Great is Macedonian (as was his father King Philip) and not nor was he ever Greek!! To much propaganda from Greek people over the years has misinformed everyone in the world.
