A wonderful map of Croatia.Despite the European debt crisis, on Sunday Croatian voters overwhelmingly chose to join the European Union. The referendum on joining the EU was supported by 66% of Croatia's population. Once the twenty-seven members of the EU approve, Croatia should be able to join the EU on July 1, 2013. A statement issued by the EU stated, "We welcome the positive outcome of the referendum on Croatia's accession to the European Union. With this vote, Croatia's citizens have given their endorsement to European integration. We congratulate Croatia and its people on their choice: EU membership will open up new opportunities for them and help secure the stability and prosperity of their nation."

I love Croatia, so this is not deliberately anti.
But it was not 66% of the population who backed EU entry, but about 24%.
It was 66% of voters within a very low turnout which, in fact, showed an astounding lack of interest.
And Croatia will immediately receive massive grants on joining – yet another net recipient member.
It is this political (not economic) enlargement of the EU that is allowing in so many net recipient members – and the cracks are now showing – a la Greece etc.

Europe should be grateful to Croatia because this country added to Europe the most beautiful sea front in the whole continent.
