I wanted to bring three mapping sites to your attention as Hurricane Irene heads toward the East Coast of the United States. The first is the National Hurricane Center, where you can find official projections and warnings for Hurricane Irene. The second is a phenomenal Google Crisis Response Map which includes layers of the hurricane's path, shelter locations, warning areas, and more. Finally, Hurricane Spaghetti Models contains an agglomeration of hurricane maps and charts all on one page; it's a very useful reference.
Additionally, here on my site I have articles about hurricanes, the 2011 hurricane name list, retired hurricane names, hurricane categories and additional resources on hazards and disasters.

I think hurricanes should be named after pets, like “Sparky”, “Tabby” and “Butch”.
