South Sudan Becomes 193rd Member of United Nations

South Sudan FlagSouth Sudan became the newest member of the United Nations today. Following the recommendation of the Security Council, the organization's General Assembly approved the world's newest country as the 193rd member of the UN. South Sudan became the world's newest country on Saturday when they declared independence from Sudan. With South Sudan's admission to the UN, there remain three countries that are not members of the United Nations.
