Tine Valencic, a 13 year-old student from Texas, won the 23rd annual National Geographic Bee last Wednesday in Washington D.C. Valencic correctly answered the following question against 11 year-old Nilai Sarda of Georgia, "Thousands of mountain climbers and trekkers rely on Sherpas to aid their ascent of Mount Everest. The southern part of Mount Everest is located in which Nepalese national park?" The answer is, "Sagarmatha National Park."
The third-place winner was 13 year-old Stefan Petrović of Kansas. The final round of the National Geographic Bee is hosted by Alex Trebec of Jeopardy and includes 54 semifinalists from each U.S. state and territory. Over the past 23 competitions, only two women have won the National Geographic Bee, the last was Caitlin Snaring in 2007. More information can be found on National Geographic's news website and Bee sponsor Google's Lat Long blog.

My daughter Isabella has been trying to be the next girl to win. She was the only girl in D.C. last year and the last one to get out this year, She was eliminated in the tie-breaker before the final…
Hi Enrico. I’m curious how you go about teaching your daughter geography? My son and I have a simple just try to remember the countries routine… What’s your learning strategy?
