Canada and Russia Turn to UN Over Polar Dispute

The Russian and Canadian foreign ministers have agreed to take their dispute over control of the Lomonosov Ridge to the United Nations. The ridge lies nearly directly under the North Pole in the Arctic Ocean. As global warming continues and the Arctic Ocean becomes navigable and exploitable for natural resources, the expansion of continental shelves is all the more important to countries that border the Arctic Ocean.
