The New World Order?

Follow me on:

Author Joel Kotkin at NewGeography.com has hypothesized a new regional grouping of countries on the planet into nineteen new tribes based on affinities and not geography. The groupings include: New Hansa (Scandinavia), The Border Areas (European but outside the core of Europe), Olive Republics (Mediterranean countries), City-States (London, Paris, Singapore, and Tel Aviv), North American Alliance, Liberalistas (in Latin America), Bolivarian Republics, Stand-Alones (Brazil, France, India, etc.), Russian Empire, The Wild East, Iranistan, Greater Arabia, The New Ottomans, South African Empire, Sub-Saharan Africa, Maghrebian Belt, Middle Kingdom (China and its satellites), The Rubber Belt (Southeast Asia), and the Lucky Countries (Australia and New Zealand). On the down side, only 114 of the current 195 independent countries are included on the list but it is still a fascinating picture of the current political geography of the world.

Fascinating but somewhat incomplete as many countries, most notably several Caribbean and a few Balkans nations, were excluded.

We were wondering why the country like Qatar, Oman etc were not listed. They are fast growing countries with rich nature resources, and great GDP. What is the reason to be left out?
