Tropical Storm Igor developed into Hurricane Igor today and the hurricane is expected to reach Category Three major hurricane strength by Monday evening. As of this writing, Hurricane Igor, the ninth named storm this year, is located near 45 degrees west longitude, which places it near the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Hurricane Igor's projected trajectory currently puts it headed toward the East Coast of the United States well over a week (or possibly two weeks) from now but that trajectory is likely to change dramatically as Hurricane Igor grows and moves across the ocean, subject to ocean currents, the jet stream, and other climatic features.
