New Rupee Symbol

By , About.com GuideJuly 19, 2010

Follow me on:

The Indian government has selected a new symbol for the rupee from among more than 3000 entries. The winning entry looks like a stylized letter "R" with two horizontal lines running through the top. It could take years for the symbol to gain widespread use. The new rupee symbol will be brought before the Unicode Consortium to create a standard computerized code for the symbol so that it can be used online and elsewhere. The creation of the euro and its symbol -  €  - in 1999 was the last major new world currency symbol created.

Moslems and Hindu populations each clearly live in separate parts of Kashmir, from sources I have read. I believe Kashmir should therefore be partitioned in two, with the Hindu portion of it joined to India, and the Moslem portion joined to Pakistan. But sadly neither side will accept such a reasonable compromise, so thousands of soldiers will continue sniping and killing each other.

India has more muslims than pakistan. Indian state does not bother whether one is a muslim or a hindu. So the concept of carving out a state and gifting it to Pakistan, as there are more muslims on one area does not arise.
