The first named tropical storm of the 2010 hurricane season was only a tropical storm for 12 hours but it packed a deadly punch to Central America. Tropical Storm Agatha has killed more than 100 (as of this writing) when it brought heavy precipitation to Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras on Saturday (May 29). This short-lived storm has become one of the ten deadliest Eastern Pacific tropical storms on record. Also, don't miss this photo of a "bottomless" sinkhole in Guatemala City. Dr. Jeff Masters' WunderBlog has more on the storm.
Dr. Masters also reports on the latest prediction of this year's possibly hyper-active hurricane season. The National Weather Service is predicting an 85% chance of an above-normal storm season.
