Thirteen year-old Aadith Moorthy of Palm Harbor, Florida won the 2010 National Geographic Bee finals in Washington, D.C. today. Moorthy correctly answered the question, "The largest city in northern Haiti was renamed following Haiti's independence from France. What is the present-day name of this city?" with the correct answer of Cap-Haïtien. The student at Palm Harbor Middle School wins a $25,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands. The second and third place competitors were from Rhode Island and Idaho, respectively. The National Geographic Society has more and a video.
