Puerto Rico to Vote Again on Status

For the fifth time in fifty years, the citizens of Puerto Rico might go to the polls to decide whether or not they like their current status as a United States territory. The U.S. House of Representatives has approved the Puerto Rico Democracy Act of 2010, which, if approved by the U.S. Senate, would lead to a vote on whether Puerto Rico should retain its current status. If the voters reject the current status, a second vote would ask if Puerto Rico should become a U.S. state or become an independent country. The About.com U.S. Government site has a good overview.

explores the many sides of the issue of PR independence. And links to other provocative resources. ODT’s equal area map of the USA is the only desktop map map that includes PR and its 4 million US citizens. See: http://www.odtmaps.com/detail.asp_Q_product_id_E_E-A-USA
