NPR reports on the recent flurry of major earthquakes around the world. Each year there are about 17 earthquakes of magnitude 7-7.9 this year, those earthquakes happen to be striking populated areas, along with others in the range of magnitude six that happen much more frequently. Thus, the article concludes, the recent spate of earthquakes are not quite yet out of ordinary.

the freqent trend in earthquakes around the world is quite alarming and very scary, so many places are experiencing huge earthquakes almost on a daily basis. if this current trrend continues waht will happen to some countries, more people will suffer and famine could really increase!!

Out of the ordinary compared to what time frame? The question is, is it a trend? Why not look at a larger sample, like the last 100 years? Now tell me if earthquakes are increasing in frequency.
