Sir Edmund Hillary's Ashes Will Not Be Atop Mt. Everest

While Sherpa supporters of deceased explorer Sir Edmund Hillary had planned to scatter his ashes on the top of Mt. Everest, Buddhist leaders warned the move could bring bad luck. Therefore, the Sherpa are scrapping the plan and will place the ashes of Sir Edmund in a monastery near Mt. Everest. Most of Sir Edmund's ashes were scattered in Auckland harbor after his 2008 death.
