Taiwan Barters for Recognition

The GeoCurrents blog has a great article about the political wrangling and maneuvering that Taiwan does in order to gain recognition from minor countries on the world stage. For example, some Pacific island countries sell their recognition for Taiwan or China to the highest bidder and thus swap allegiances regularly.
