Yesterday, the United States military announced that a new runway has been built and is being opened today near the city of Jacmel, Haiti about 30 miles southwest of the capital Port-Au-Prince. The new runway, capable of landing C-130 Hercules cargo planes, will allow a large number of additional relief planes to land on the beleaguered island. Jacmel had an airport with one runway before the new addition.
