Haiti, located at the boundary of the Caribbean and the North American tectonic plates, suffered a major magnitude 7.0 earthquake on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 4:53:09 p.m. local time. Thousands are feared dead in the earthquake and millions are likely to be impacted in Haiti. Haiti has has a population of 9.2 million people who live off an average per capita income of US $3.60 per day.
