The 14 Countries Not to Be From

By , About.com GuideJanuary 4, 2010

Follow me on:

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration announced that travelers with passports from fourteen countries will be super-duper-screened before boarding an airplane to the United States. This is apparently an effort to reduce terror attacks. Here are the fourteen countries (perhaps they consist of a new Axis of Evil? Share your thoughts below...)

  1. Cuba
  2. Iran
  3. Sudan
  4. Syria
  5. Afghanistan
  6. Algeria
  7. Iraq
  8. Lebanon
  9. Libya
  10. Nigeria
  11. Pakistan
  12. Saudi Arabia
  13. Somalia
  14. Yemen

There are thousands of people from that countries who hold passports and have the Nationality of other countries. So, the security task is not so easy.

Cuban Nationals NEVER form a threat to safety of any foreign airliner !!! Some Cuban citizens would try to hijack Cuban domestic airplanes to flee the country. To prevent this, there are armed security guards on every domestic flight, so that all “normal” pax feel pretty safe!!!
And its’s so difficult for Cuban citizens to get abroad, that they will never try terrorist attack on any airplane !!!
(In history, the only terrorist attacks made by Cubans were made by Cuban emmigrants /with their safe base at Miami, USA/ AGAINST Cubana airplanes!!! None of these terrorists was given by USA to Cuban authorities for punishment !!!
If two sides make the same, it is not the same !!!

The Uk might be a handy addition. The Xmas Day debacle involved a UK citizen. Perhaps that country needs to sort out its security before granting citizenship to people who might do others damage.

It’s about time! What we really need to do is block out Terrorist harboring countries altogether. I do have to agree that Cuba being on the list is strange.

(9) Kath says:

When is the US going to get over their hang-up about Cuba? I agree Cubans show no sign of making terrorist attacks on the USA. And the Christmas Day would-be bomober was not a UK citizen (as Mary Donnelly thinks), but a Nigerian citizen. The UK link is that he attended University College London 2005-2008. He was later refused a visa to the UK.

(10) Yehuda Kovesh says:

USA and its cronies have done more terrorist actions against Cuba than what Cuba has done. To include Cuba on this list is anachronistic, harking back to the cold days and points out the blindness of the american policy makers. It is interesting to note that out of the 13, 11 are moslem, Lebanon has a large radical moslem population and Nigerian North is Moslem..Pakistan has begun screening moslems with Foreign Passports and I am sure it is already happening in other countries..

(11) RJay says:

That is a start, but, many of the radical extremist groups were also working heavily to recruit in the “Stans” as in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan. They were also working in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Malaysia.

(12) Emeka says:

Am baffled that Nigeria which has been in the forefront of regional security in Africa can be labelled a terrorist country. Is it a retaliation for our not allowing an american military base in Africa? The americans should note that this act would make them have more enemies than friends amongs Nigerians

I doubt this will do more extremely than they expected. What more justifications are there than only suspicions. Reconsider the move

I would probably add Jordan to the list. It is about time we “screen” more people from certain countries. Amen

Nigeria should not be included in the list just because of what a 23 year old Abdulmutallab did, what the boy did is not a true representation of what we Nigerians and particularlly the Muslims are

Cuba is in tight military/financial/political agenda relationships with such rogue states as Russia :) , Venezuella, Nicaragua, North korea, Gaza (Hezbullah) and Canada (just kinnding on the last one), not to mention that USA and Cuba have no diplomatic relationship. One must be dumb to let a Cuban national through their terminal without double-checking them out.

(18) shankar says:

its not a computer network your trying to screen the input and rely on output … security is again not within the 4 walls … the pattern of the problem is slowly Asia( south, middle east, persian gulf), Africa( east , north) and what is next ???
Co-operation required to fight the menance is equally greater .. but its costly affair … the enemy are losely defined .. their geography is increasing and no doubt that this list will also increase .. what you say ??

With the exception of Cuba, an atheistic country, why are the remaining thirteen nations all with majority Islamic populations?

(20) Rick says:

It gets so tiring when a government–any government, that of my own country, USA included–makes generically negative blanket rules about people from a certain country, nationality, ethnic group or religion. It angers me, too, when American citizens fall for the stereotypes and propaganda involved. I know people from at least three of the countries on this list, and they are fine upstanding people.
Better than some Americans I know.
Should we put Americans on a watch list, too, because there have been home-grown American terrorists?

(22) David Warangel says:

no, stupid is seeking TO KILL hundreds of strangers over grievances against a govt.

Stupid is also acting like extra questions, waiting, document review is some huge injustice.

I would think every victim of terrorism would love to have simply been detained, have their id scrutinized and asked questions

If that’s the biggest injustic citizens of those countries face, then they frankly have it too easy. As is, those countries, such as Nigeria, have plenty of REAL injustice, corruption, etc. for them to get angry about if they are so self-righteous.

(23) harry Godspeed says:

What’s up, United States? Are we safe? I should think it’s wrong to include MY BELOVED COUNTRY on the list of 14 terror- risk States. We are better than that and deserved to be treated right! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria! NAIJA FOR LIFE! NIGERIA TILL THE END! NIGERIA LOVE; OUT SOON!

Do u know wy these countries are on the terrorist list????
Coz USA tried to invade all these countries they couldnt to do that!!!!!!Exception IRAQ and Afghanistan….so the best way to revenge is to do that!!!

February 3, 2010 at 11:00 am
(29) Newman says:

Iraqies shouldn’t be on that list for many reasons:
1- I challenge anyone to give me the name of an Iraqi terrorist (outside Iraq) or any terrorist attempt involving Iraqies especially before the invasion/libaration.
2- Most of Iraqies travelling abroad are fleeing the war and they’re only intrested in finding safe haven.
3- Iraqies are very good in killing each other!!!
4- Have a nice day

(30) Aysha Anas Iftikhar says:

Firstly this law is discriminatory. Why only 14 countries? A terrorist could hold dual nationality. Sadly the US could’nt think of this.
More importantly it strips individuals of human dignity and their privacy. Furtermore it violates religous beliefs of certain travelers.
I urge the nationals of these 14 countries to not travel to the US. Their boycott will result in the loss of financial, human and intellectual capital.

(31) USALOVEITORLEAVEIT says:

Anyone that would mind being scrutinized before boarding a plane, has something to hide. For those of you who are offended, you may return from the country you came from. If you love it more than the United States, then leave. Personally, my freedoms have been hampered by terrorist activity, at home and abroad. I am sick and tired of it. I think we should scrutinize everyone from every country. Those who don’t like it, too bad. Your’s is the ass that might be saved from being killed by a terrorist.
