Five Countries Elected to UN Security Council

Thursday October 15, 2009

Five countries were elected by the United Nations General Assembly to serve two-year terms on the Security Council, beginning January 1, 2010. The five new Security Council members are Bosnia, Brazil, Gabon, Lebanon, and Nigeria. They replace other countries from their regions whose terms end on December 31, 2009. See my listing of Security Council members for a listing of new and old member countries; the AP has more on the election.
