The International Olympic Committee announced today in Copenhagen, Denmark that the host city for the XXXI 2016 Summer Olympic Games will be Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The four final bid cities for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games were Chicago (United States), Tokyo (Japan), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and Madrid (Spain). The IOC voted in three rounds to obtain a majority vote on October 2, 2009. In the first round, Chicago was eliminated. In the second round, Tokyo was eliminated. The final vote came down to Madrid and Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro joins the growing list of host cities for the Olympic Games.
