The Ring of Fire has seen some significant activity over the past few days. In Samoa, a magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck at 6:48 a.m. local time on Tuesday (Sept. 29), which caused a tsunami that killed at least 119 people. President Obama declared American Samoa a disaster area and sent relief supplies and emergency workers. On Wednesday (Sept. 30) at 5:15 p.m. a magnitude 7.6 earthquake hit Indonesia, killing more than 75 people.
Update: The death toll from the Indonesia earthquake is expected to exceed 1000.
