The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has just released unemployment data for the month of July of metropolitan areas around the United States. El Centro, California has the nation's highest unemployment rate at a whopping 30.2%. Other larger California metropolitan areas are not good - Merced is 17.6%, Modesto is 16.3%, and Stockton is 16%. Michigan is also not faring so well - Detroit's unemployment rate is 17.7%, and Flint is 17.6%. Here is the table of metropolitan data.

I notice some of the localities with the highest unemployment, like Vineland, NJ – Rocky Mount, NC – McAllen, TX – El Centro, CA – and various cities in the central California valley – are communities with a lot of agricultural Hispanic “migrant labor” growing fruits and vegatables.
