The commander of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Darfur said that the war in that region of Sudan is over. General Gen. Martin Luther Agwai is quoted as saying, "As of today, I would not say there is a war going on in Darfur, militarily, there is not much. What you have is security issues more now. Banditry, localized issues, people trying to resolve issues over water and land at a local level. But real war as such, I think we are over that.” In addition, seven rebel groups unified as one to join the peace process. So, is the genocide over? When will the world's attention slip from Darfur and onto another tragedy? Should we remain focused on Sudan?
