A new report by the anti-death penalty group Hands Off Cain shows that China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, and the United States lead the world in the number executed in 2008. China executed at least 5000 followed by Iran at 346, Saudi Arabia at 102, North Korea at 63, and the United States at 37 (18 of which were in Texas alone). The U.S. was followed by Iraq (34) and Vietnam (19). According to the report at least 5,727 were executed around the world in 2008, which is down from at least 5,851 in 2007.

Those countries all have oppressive governments. Wow, weird.
I seriously doubt that the North Korea statistic is that low. They do have prison camps, possibly concentration camps. When someone denounces the government, not just the denouncer, but three generations of the denouncer’s family are arrested. Grandparents, grandchildren, or parents and children. Possibly a low OFFICIAL capital punishment number, but unofficially so many more North Koreans must have perished as a result of government action.
I also seriously doubt that Saudi Arabia has such a low number given how strictly they follow Sharia law which calls for the death penalty in so many cases.
thats not surprising, but interesting
