The list of failed countries might include the United States, soon.
With over $10 trillion of national debt, which is increasing by $1 trillion a year. Social Security and Medicare moving quickly to bankruptcy. Most state and local governments over loaded with debt and on the verge of bankruptcy, along with their public employee retirement systems being overwhelmed by unrealistic promises.
We could be looking at a perfect storm of debt and failed promises that could not only take down the United States, but the rest of the world with it.
But not to worry. Our leaders in Washington and the State governments will step up and solve everything. And the tooth fairy is real.
The New York Times recently evaluated all Congressional Budget Office reports since 2000. Back in 2001 the CBO predicted that the years 2009-2012 would have annual Federal surpluses of $800 billion. Instead, there is now a $1.2 trillion deficit. The N.Y. Times’s analysis concludes that 37% of the deficit is due to the 2 economic recessions of 2001 and the present one, having reduced Federal tax revenue, and increased the need to spend on safety net programs. Another 33% of the deficit is due to new legislation signed by Bush Jr., including tax cut legislation and the new Medicare prescription drug benefit. Another 20% of the deficit is due to several policies started by Bush Jr. and continued by Obama, such as spending on the Iraq War and tax cuts for households earning under $250,000. 7% of the deficit is due to Obama’s stimulus bill signed in February. Only 3% of the deficit is due to Obama’s agenda in healthcare, education, energy, and other areas.
Countries like Sudan and Somalia would have been blissful in the absence of western interference. They should have been allowed to decide a solution to their lingering problems. They are humans, not apes and neither are they decedants of apes. Let them be free. They are not rogoues or murderers. They are peoples who suffer hegemonic interference of those sought humanity for their pockets. Nobody possess omnipotence as attribute. Thanks for the constant alarm without reasoned way out.
