Following last November's referendum on autonomy from Denmark, a ceremony was held last Sunday for the official transition of additional powers to Greenland's government. One of the main components of the new autonomy of Greenland include the ability for the world's largest island to keep half of the proceeds of oil and mineral exploitation. The New York Times reports on the transition and what it means for Greenland and Denmark.

I wonder when, if ever, Greenland will be totally independent? They must rely on Denmark for many needs still.
When will Greenland be totally independent?
The climate of Greenland is getting warmer allowing more agriculture to feed people on home grown food.
Glaciers are retreating opening more land for mineral exploration creating jobs and exports.
Off shore areas are being opened for oil and gas exploration creating jobs, and if oil and gas are found Greenland may become self sufficient in energy, and provide exports, reducing its need for foreign aid.
Greenland has a long way to go, but the future is looking up.
One man’s global warming is another man’s opportunity.
