Central Counties in Metro Areas Grow More Slowly Than Outlying Counties

The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the central counties in metropolitan areas grew more slowly than outlying counties from 2000-2007. According to the report, it was migration to those outlying counties that caused most of the growth, compared to natural increase. Here's a neat statistic: "More than 80 percent, or 252 million, of the nation’s population live in metro areas. About 92 percent of these people live in central counties."
