El Nino and Hurricane Season

While hurricane season has just begun, it appears that thanks to a developing El Nino, the season might not be as strong as previously expected. El Nino causes the jet stream to move southward, causing wind shear which disrupts hurricane production.

As a new Florida resident, I’m glad to hear about the possible reduction in the number of Hurricanes due to El Nino. However, our friends up north will be unhappy because an El Nino means warmer winters which means less snow for outdoor activities such as snowmobeling and sking.

This is welcomed news for persons living in the Caribbean region. Last season, the region was severely battered by some powerful storms. Some countries are yet to recover from the ravages of last season. I hope this holds true for the region this hurricane season.
