German parliament member Gert Weisskirchen announced that he would fully support European Union membership for Israel if Israel would support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. This follows remarks by Parliament President Hans-Gert Pottering who stated he would support a close EU relationship, but not EU membership, for Israel, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Israel in the EU? We know what they are like in the Eurovision song contest, so in Brussels they would be just as boring and at the end of the day trouble. Israelis, you gotta love ‘em, but they just don’t get it!
I think I’ve lost the plot!!
Since when did Israel form a geographical part of Europe?

You are not necessarily need to be geographically in Europe to become part of EU, Cyprus is a true example.
cyprus is geographically part of europe!
“Supporting the establishment of a Palestinian state” is a typically vague term. Israel could claim they have already done that, though their demands are of course completely unacceptable to the Palestinians. I don’t see any positive movement while Netanyahu is in power with a right wing coalition.

well,i think that israel doesn’t need the EU membership.the US gives israel security and funding.this is more than enough for israelis.
it seems like that US is the kind and always forgiving mother while israel is the naughty and noisy baby.so,the baby doesn’t need care from someone else.

Israel should definitely not be part of the EU. It’s not called the European Union for nothing. Also, Cyprus has always been considered part of the continent of Europe, and it has a strong Greek, Turkish, and British influence.
And, then, why should Israel be part of the EU?
