Google unwittingly jumped into a Japanese caste battle from the 17th century by simply allowing antique maps to be overlaid on Google Earth in Japan. The controversy revolves around old maps of areas of the Tokyo metropolitan area that show former slums, the homes of "untouchables" who lived outside of the 17th century caste system in Japan's samurai era. The TimesOnline has the story and how it is flaming the fires of controversy in the 21st century.
