California's state budget and economic woes are world renowned. Journalist Martin Hutchinson suggests that to solve the state's problems, California be divided into four states. Read his article for the specifics but the four states are basically: 1) Orange County to San Diego, 2) Greater Los Angeles, 3) The Bay Area, and 4) The Rural Valleys.

That would be crazy. We would have a 53-star flag!
trust me that would be the solution, this place is a living hell! and no more white people! the inconvience is miserable, the traffic i just want to die when im in a car everyday and as for expenses that will kill you first.
wouldnt this make it any worse??
and we wouldnt have a 50 star flag we would have 54 stars!! not 53..50+4=54!!
i think that california should just be its own country!!
Would that mean that people might work in three states on a daily basis? What a mess.
First, it would be 53 stars. 50 – current California state (= 49) + 4 new California states = 53.
I think dividing up Califonia into 3 states would be a better idea. I would divide California more by geography.
1- South of the Tehachapi Mountains, including Santa Barbara east to the Colorado River.
2- Central California, from the Golden Gate, Sacramento River, Lake Tahoe, south to the Tehacapi Mountains.
3- North California, from the Golden Gate, Sacramento River, Lake Tahoe, north to the Oregon Boarder.
These three areas are easily defined and fairly different geographically, economically, and politically.
Divided into 3 states might make California more manageable. And the people in each new state would be better served by their representatives in both their state governments and in the US Congress.
Also, Texas should be divided into 3 states, as was intended when Texas was admitted to the Union.
With 3 Californias and 3 Texas’ the flag would have 54 stars, 50-2+3+3=54.

Hmm — maybe we could give some of the sub-states back …
