For the first time in California's history since becoming a state in 1850, the Golden State might lose seats in the U.S. House of Representatives following the reapportionment after Census 2010. Even thought California's population is increasing, it is increasing more slowly than other states. The states of Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Georgia, and Texas all saw double-digit growth over the past five years while California's growth was less than the country as a whole, at a mere 4.1% growth.
