Despite the economic situation, there are cities and metropolitan areas in the United States where job growth is occurring, albeit slowly. The annual ranking of the best cities for jobs ranks 333 metropolitan areas into large, medium, and small cities that are the best for jobs. Eight of the twenty best cities for jobs are in Texas, thanks to the energy industry. The ranking for the best cities for jobs for 2009 are:

1. Odessa, Texas
2. Grand Junction, Colorado
3. Longview, Texas
4. Houma-Bayou Cane-Thibodaux, Louisiana
5. Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood, Texas
6. Austin-Round Rock, Texas
7. McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas
8. Laredo, Texas
9. Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, Texas
10. Tulsa, Oklahoma
