Sweden has legalized same-sex marriage, becoming the seventh country to do so since the Netherlands did so in 2001. On May 1, when Sweden's new law goes into effect, Sweden joins the Netherlands as well as South Africa, Belgium, Norway, Canada, and Spain in allowing and recognizing same-sex marriage.

I didn’t know Spain was on the same sex marriage list. My, how things have changed.
I worked in Franco Spain for some months starting an oil refinery unit in Cartagena. (Maybe about 1956?) It was quite a process getting permission to work in Spain. You had to document that you were not a Mason, and did not belong to any of a list of Christian fundamentalist religions or had a non-Christian religion. (While I am an atheist I could document my Lutheran catechism and confirmation.) And of course you couldn’t have any Communist leanings.
The “Spanish Family” ran everything, the military, corporations and government services, and effectively used the RC Church. An incident points out how this worked: A Dutch engineer was summoned to the refinery general manager and told he had to stop using birth control. (His wife had so confessed.) The Dutchman said he thought his wife’s confession was between her and God. The manager said, “Well?” It was not generally known outside of Spain but Franco, not the Vatican, had the last word on naming Bishops.
I depended on Time Magazine for news, but when I was told at the newsstand “It didn’t come in this week” I eventually learned that meant the censors had seized it.
Why people want to make something so wrong seem right?
Well done Sweden for jumping on board let’s hope more countries follow suit.
I’m sorry, did I miss something? Am I reading Miriam’s comment out of context? Will someone clarify what Miriam is referring to please?
