Global Cooling?

By , About.com GuideFebruary 4, 2009

Follow me on:

Some are reporting that 2008 was a cold year and looking at the frigid weather in the UK and throughout much of the United States as of late, one might wonder what's going on with global warming? Dr. Jeff Masters writes about climate and the variability of weather on the Wunder Blog. On a recent post, he answers questions such as, "Is the globe cooling?," "How often should we expect to see a new global temperature record?," and "Is global warming slowing down?" Read his post and share your thoughts below...

Hi,
From what I had read, we are still talking about very little variations in global mean temperatures but with important consequencies. Weather this cooling is masking or not the actual warming, is very debateble. Nature has only two ways: it cools or it warms. What we theorise about this is another kind of fish food. However, many other researchers had shown that the Sun is having less spots, situation which could last several years or more, until we are passing the next magnetic polarity changes in 2010. But still then, scientists predicts that the next sunspots periods will be weaker and weaker, for over 30 years from now on. Similar sunspots situation had been determined in the former Little Ice Age (1350-1850) with a peak of cool weather between 1700 and 1800. Finally, … I don’t believe the climate is primarily determined by the anthropogenic emissions.

The claim that the globe is cooling cannot be scientifically justified.I refer you to the studies made by Dr. Jeff Masters that conclude that the globe has been warming ince 1988, not cooling. This warming rate has been about 0.16 degrees centigrade per decade over the last thirty years.

During the two past years, 2007 and 2008, the Global Temperature went down, and the CO2 level went up. This seems to prove that Human Activity is NOT causing Global Warming. We have
large effects due to the lack of Sun Spots, which (I believe) have caused the last few weeks of very cold weather all over the globe. The sun spots in 2008 were the least in 50 years and 2009 is starting with NO sunspots for an extended period, when the cycle of Sun Spots ordinarily would be on the up swing.

When I look at the temperature plots I see “noise” swamping any trend. I’ve made plots that show more convincing trends with no data at all – i. e. using only a random number generator.

Surface temperature data collected from any weather site will show very little trend one way or another in the past 40 years. If anything, there certainly is no trend towards warming. You can draw your lines on graphs stright lines or curves but carefull diagnosis of World temeratures shows fluctuations and vaiations all the time. We are either on a cooler than normal season or a warmer than normal season. I dare anyone to show a real trend exists.

Regardless of which “expert” is correct. There is little we humans can do about it since the sun and volcanos are beyond our control and they are more influential than humanity. So eat, drink and be merry if you so choose. It beats anything else.

Regardless of which “expert” you choose to believe, there is very little or nothing we can do about it. The sun and volcanoes affect weather far more than we do and they can not be controled by humans. So, eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we are going to die anyway.

R: It’s Cooling!

L: No,wait. It’s Warming!

R: No, no. It’s definately cooling!

L: The cooling just shows how it’s really warming!

R: What?

L: You heard me!

R: You’re insane!!!

L: No I’m not, you are!!!!

R: Right…

L: Oh, yeah? Well you can’t be right because I’m a scientist.

R: So what? So am I!

L: Yeah, but everyone agrees with me.

R: So wait, I can’t be right because you are?

L: That’s right.

R: Idiot.

(9) Bob Sacamano says:

The process that people refer to as “global warming” which is just climate change ultimately leads to the cooling of the earth. This is where the idea of “Global Cooling” comes from and it is correct. However I think it should all be looked at as climate change it has been happening for millions upon millions of years

global warming followed by global cooling is a natural cycle and will happan with or without human contribution. agree with jimmie
