Huge Map Used to Plan Inauguration

Wednesday January 7, 2009
A 40-foot by 40-foot map of Washington D.C. is being used by officials to plan the January 20 inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama. The giant map shows the precise locations of portable toilets, loudspeakers, video screens and more so that every detail of the inauguration is thought through for which might be the largest inauguration crowd in American history. If you're interested in logistical and planning details of the inauguration, the Washington Post's Inauguration Watch blog is not to be missed!

(1) Win Barber says:

Yes, it is promising to be the largest crowd ever in Washington D.C.’s history. All Potomac River bridge crossings will be closed, except to busses and pedestrians. Spectators will have to either walk into the city, ride busses, or the Metro subway (which will be jammed beyond capacity). Some parade marching bands are having to lodge 150 miles away in Williamsburg VA and commute, as all hotels closer to D.C. are filled up. City residents with spare rooms to rent, can advertise on “Craigslist” and demand almost any fee they care to name.
