The BBC is reporting on a huge increase in the number of new babies being named Barack Obama or Michelle Obama in Kenya. According to the BBC, "More than half of the babies born in a Kisumu Hospital on the day after the election were named either Barack or Michelle Obama."

As a corollary, I have a relative who does family genealogy and I am aware from her work that over several hundred years’ names in our family have not changed dramatically until now.
I am also aware that among the recently published ten most popular girls’ names and the ten most popular boys’ names I know not a single soul by any of those names in my primary grade school classes. I suppose that many mothers don’t’ know who the ancestors of their babies are. I am astounded how quickly things have changed during just my lifetime compared to all eternity of man’s short existence
