A referendum was held yesterday in the quasi-independent British crown dependency of Jersey to switch from the British time zone to the Central European time zone. According to the government's website, "In the Referendum held on 15 October, which asked 'Do you think that Jersey should adopt Central European Time?', the votes were No - 17,230; Yes - 6,564." Thus, Jersey, a mere 14 miles (23 kilometers) from the French coast, will retain British time.
